Coffee Story
Founded in 1961 in Três Pontas, Cocatrel is today the second-largest coffee cooperative in Brazil, bringing together over 6,000 members and 11 regional branches.
Every lot of coffee is fully traceable thanks to a system of unique QR codes, ensuring transparency and quality from the farmer to the cup. More than half of the cooperative’s members grow coffee on small farms under 10 hectares, a testament to family-based, sustainable agriculture.
The “Castanhas do Brasil” blend which translates to “Brazil Nuts” comes mainly from Carmo de Cachoeira and is prized for its sweet, creamy profile with notes of hazelnut praline and a clean, balanced cup. Only coffees scoring 83 points or higher are selected for this blend.
Drying takes place in static boxes of 15,000 liters (equivalent to 25–30 coffee sacks), equipped with bottom-up airflow ventilation and a precise thermal control system that keeps temperatures below 40°C. The coffee remains still throughout the process and is then rested for 1–2 weeks before milling.
This careful method enhances the blend’s character, resulting in a fruitier and more complex cup than is typically found in traditional Brazilian naturals.
